About American Heart of Poland

The AHP Group is the largest network of hospital units specialising in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In partnership with the public healthcare system, it provides Polish citizens with access to high-quality treatment in the field of invasive cardiology, cardiac surgery, and vascular surgery.

An essential part of AHP’s activity is the Center for Cardiovascular Research and Development, which conducts high-quality translational research to introduce life-saving technologies into everyday clinical practice.

Prof. Krzysztof Milewski, MD, PhD

General Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Research and Development of American Heart of Poland

Cardiologist and researcher associated with American Heart of Poland since 2004.

Currently General Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Research and Development, American Heart of Poland.

Director and interventional cardiologist of the 2nd Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Polish-American Heart Clinics in Bielsko-Biała.

Researcher at the Department of Physiotherapy in Internal Medicine, The Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice. Board member of Med4fit – multispecialty clinics.

He has participated in more than 20 clinical trials, including those related to the efficacy and safety of renal artery angioplasty combined with stent implantation and evaluating self-expandable coronary stents made of nitinol.

Associated with the Polish Cardiac Society, the European Society of Cardiology, the Association on Cardiovascular Interventions of the Polish Cardiac Society, board member of Professional Society of Interventional Cardiologists, and the Commission of Grants and Scientific Research at the Polish Cardiac Society.  He graduated from the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.

Prof. Andrzej Bochenek , MD, PhD

Cardiac surgeon, co-founder of Polish-American Heart Clinics, former member of the General Board of the Polish Cardiac Society.

He specialises in cardiac surgery, general surgery, and angiology. He improved his experience in the leading cardiac centres in Poland (Zabrze, Krakow, Poznan) and abroad, including the National Heart Institute in London, the Cardiothoracic Department in Leicester (Great Britain), Karolinska Institute (Sweden), Oxford Radcliffe Hospital, and the Deborah Heart and Lung Center – Browns Mills (USA).

He was a deputy of Prof. Zbigniew Religa in 1984 – 1988, with whom he participated in the first successful heart transplants and the first implementation of the mechanical heart assist system in heart failure. Founder of the acclaimed 1st Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice Ochojec, which he managed for 25 years, until 2013. Currently Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology and Vascular Surgery, Faculty of Medicine named prof. Zbigniew Religa, University of Technology, Katowice, Poland.

Jerzy Garlicki, MD

Clinical Research Advisor at American Heart of Poland

Doctor of Medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College, MBA graduate of Warsaw University and University of Illinois, Supervisory Board Member of American Heart of Poland, and President of WSiP. Previously he served as President of the Employers’ Union of Innovative Pharmaceutical Companies INFARMA, President of Astra Zeneca, President of Fournier Poland, Sales Director of Pfizer Poland, Sales Director and Marketing Director of MSD Poland, also active in the field of clinical research.

Piotr Buszman , MD, PhD

Preclinical Research Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Research and Development, American Heart of Poland.

Invasive Cardiologist. Graduate of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. Has completed internships in internal medicine and cardiology in the USA and Europe, including an internship in interventional cardiology and implementation studies at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, New York, USA. Completed specialty training in cardiology at the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze. Graduate of NextGen Ernst & Young and Columbia University program, New York.

Author and co-author of implementation studies of Polish and foreign technologies in the field of transcatheter endovascular therapies and local drug delivery in cardiovascular diseases (e.g. DES stents, bioresorbable stents, new generation drug-coated balloons). Author and co-author of several papers on the selection of the optimal method of revascularization in patients with advanced coronary artery disease. Director of implementation studies of the first Polish drug-coated balloon and bioresorbable stent. Co-author of the Comprehensive Coordinated Care after Myocardial Infarction program – a program of the Ministry of Health and the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System. Author of more than 70 full-text publications from the Philadelphia list with a total of > 200 . Author and owner of several patents.

Paweł Kaźmierczak, MD

Member of the Board, Chief Medical Officer of American Heart of Poland

Has over 15 years of experience in managing projects in the healthcare sector at the operational and strategic level. His key competence areas are: medical service market and public healthcare system in Poland, public financing of healthcare services and the current condition of Polish cardiology, including the financing of outpatient and hospital procedures. Graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Lodz.
