A breakthrough in medical innovation: a Robotic Surgery Competence Centre is being set up in Zabrze

The Silesian University of Technology and the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) are proud to announce the establishment of a modern Robotic Surgery Competence Centre in Zabrze. It will be the first training centre in Poland available to medical teams from across the country, as well as from Eastern Europe, dedicated to the Versius system – surgical robots used for minimally invasive procedures.
The centre is the result of strategic cooperation between Innovaris (the exclusive partner of CMR Surgical in Poland), the Anmar Group and the Silesian University of Technology/EHTIC. A letter of intent on this matter was signed on 21 August 2025 in Zabrze.
The Competence Centre at EHTIC aims to support hospitals and medical teams in preparing for the successful implementation of robotic surgery.
The Key Role of EHTIC and High Training Standards
The EHTIC centre will provide training in the use of the Versius robot in conditions that are as close as possible to a real operating theatre. The training programme goes beyond simply working with the robot, covering full preparation for working in a robotic theatre – from planning the procedure to communication during the procedure.

The centre will operate in accordance with the standards of the CMR Surgical programme accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The programme combines training on simulators, elements of VR and e-learning, and work on procedural pathways, and its quality is confirmed by international partnerships, including with IRCAD, the world leader in minimally invasive surgery training.
As emphasised by Prof. Zbigniew Paszenda, Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Investment, the Silesian University of Technology and EHTIC consistently support innovations that have a direct impact on improving the quality of life of patients, and this cooperation strengthens Silesia’s position as a leader in medical technology in Central and Eastern Europe.
EHTIC brings to the partnership the research and development facilities of one of the most advanced units in the country. It has the infrastructure to simulate medical procedures and test devices in conditions similar to clinical ones. Thanks to this, the Centre will become a place where innovations are created in close cooperation between science, business and clinical practice.
Vision and Openness of the Centre
Knowledge at the Centre will be provided by high-class Innovaris experts – trainers with many years of experience in robotic surgery. EHTIC provides modern infrastructure and an environment conducive to innovation, while ensuring that the centre will be open to hospitals and medical teams from every region of the country.
Dr Marcin Kaczmarek, Prof. PŚ, Director of EHTIC, points out that this cooperation will allow for the integration of the knowledge and experience of surgeons from all over Poland, including smaller centres, which will help to reduce inequalities in access to modern surgery.
The common goal of the partners is to create an ecosystem that will accelerate the implementation of modern surgical technologies and ensure the improvement of the training process based on international standards. The centre is scheduled to open in September 2025.
The Competence Centre in Zabrze combines technology, education and organisational support with the aim of bringing about a real improvement in the quality of patient care.
