Management of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education visits EHTIC

‘This is where the heart of Polish biomedical engineering beats’.

During their visit to the Silesian University of Technology, Minister Marcin Kulasek and Prof. Marek Gzik, Deputy Minister of Science, visited Zabrze to learn about the research and infrastructure potential of the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) and the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.

An emotional return to the roots of innovation

For Prof. Marek Gzik, the visit to Zabrze held special significance. As the former dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering — the only faculty of its kind in Poland to combine technology and medicine — he presented the results of his many years of work on constructing this centre. The Deputy Minister described the EHTIC as his ‘scientific brainchild’, emphasising that this state-of-the-art centre was created to develop transformative healthcare technologies.

‘Created in Poland’ – technology in the service of medicine

During their visit to the EHTIC laboratories, the ministers saw how advanced solutions in artificial intelligence, biomechatronics and virtual reality support diagnostic and therapeutic processes. Minister Marcin Kulasek emphasised the unit’s strategic importance in developing key economic sectors, noting that solutions developed at EHTIC are becoming synonymous with the highest global quality under the slogan ‘Created in Poland’.

Dialogue with young scientists

A key element of the programme was the opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with academic staff, students, and doctoral candidates. Scientific circles presented their innovative projects, including:

  • Silesian Phoenix,
  • PolSl Racing,
  • SKN AI-METH.

Representatives of the Student Council and the University Doctoral Student Council discussed the vision of modern science and the current challenges facing higher education with the ministry’s management.

The strategic future of innovation

The visit concluded with the ministers participating in the University Management Board, where the future of innovation at the Silesian University of Technology was discussed.
