Cooperation agreement with Materials Design

On 12 June 2024, the Silesian University of Technology signed a collaboration agreement with Materials Design, a software development and materials testing services company.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Prof Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, and Dr Erich Wimmer, co-founder and scientific director of Materials Design, who leads a team that has completed more than 100 major research projects for industrial clients and authored or co-authored more than 130 scientific publications and book contributions. On the same day, before the contract was signed, Dr Erich Wimmer gave a presentation at the Education and Congress Centre on ‘Multi-scale material modelling in the age of machine learning’.

The establishment of this cooperation is the nucleus for the development of joint ventures by the Silesian University of Technology for the transformation of industry in the Silesian region and the offer of completely new materials for industry based on the raw materials available in Poland. The establishment of permanent cooperation with Materials Design also means new opportunities for the Biomedical Engineering Department and EHTIC in terms of our research areas.

During the visit to the Silesian University of Technology on 13 June, we also had the opportunity to present our laboratories, equipment and research potential, particularly in the field of materials research. During the meeting, needs and real challenges were discussed, which helped to identify opportunities for long-term scientific and research cooperation.
